Last month, Georgia Department of Labor calculated the Savannah area unemployment rate to be 2.5%, a very low rate compared to both the national average and the last ten years in Savannah.
We took a quick glance at the unemployment rates by month over the last ten years on the Bureau of Labor Statistics database and the only other time it was that low was April 2022.
From 2013 to early 2015, the rate never dropped below 6% for some context. This matters because economic opportunity encourages population growth and you have to ask if Savannah has enough housing and rental inventory to meet the demand.
